Forge Welding into Knife Blade Making
Make a simple Norwegian style working knife at the Iron Range Makerspace (IRM) October 12th 11:30 am to 7:00 pm. Registration is required. Bring a bag lunch & closed lid bottle of water.
Students will forge weld ¼ inch square rods together then test the welds. After that, we will forge weld three pieces of steel: two pieces of 15N20 and one piece of 01 tool steel to form a knife blade. Next, we will taper the knife into shape. This is referred to as a sandwich style blade. Each student will leave with a finished blade without a handle.
Students will use propane forges inside IRM. Closed toe shoes, long pants and sleeves, cotton clothing only (no synthetics). Leather aprons are best but optional.
* No refunds, materials included.
** Minimum 4, maximum 6 students
